Introduction 

Instagram is a free online photo sharing app and social networking platform that allows users to edit and upload photos and short videos via mobile apps. It provides a way for people to share their lives with family, friends, and strangers through photos. Also, it’s easy to use by taking a snapshot with your phone and storing it digitally. The concept of this popular social networking site is based on the passion for photographs. Instagram is not only a tool for individuals, but also for businesses. More and more business owners are realizing the importance of marketing through social media platforms. Using Instagram as an effective marketing medium requires an investment of energy, time and other resources. When marketing to young people, business owners need to expand their reach, develop strategies, and put their business on Instagram. As you can see, social media has become an integral part of our lives. In this blog, we’re going to teach you how to use Instagram.

What is reel?

Reel refers to high-frequency video content played on ins, suitable for viewing in a mobile state and short-term leisure state and ranges from a few seconds to a few minutes. The content incorporates themes such as skill-sharing, funny humour, fashion trends, social hot spots, street interviews, education, and commercial customization.

As long as you have an ins account and a mobile phone, you can take a short video. The method of taking a reel is the same as using a mobile phone to shoot.

About Instagram story

Instagram Stories is a suitable place for video advertising. The story is to share the latest feelings of the moment. Sometimes users feel that posting Instagram is too formal, and a story is more appropriate. On the other hand, publishing a story is more convenient than racking their brains to design a post. You only need to take out your phone and open the Instagram story to start recording.

Discussion 

In this lesson, we applied different Mayer’s principles in the multimedia elements created. The multimedia contents in this lesson are Infographic, screencast video, presentations slides and poster. All these elements were integrated in the lesson to introduce a certain concept.

The principles that were used on those elements are.

Cognitive principle, Mayer’s cognitive load theory emphasizes the use of words aligned with graphics. People tend to pay attention when pictures are placed in close proximity rather than far away (Principles of Multimedia Learning, 2020). It reduces the extraneous work of the brain when processing information. This was implied when creating the presentation slides.

Modality principle describes the use of graphics on narrations rather than on screen text especially when tutorials or similar types of graphics because it overloads the visual channel which is different than the auditory channel and makes it hard or slow for the audience to process information effectively. This video was created using a screencast tool and the presenter narrated instructions while showing the activity thereby implying the principle.

Redundancy principle violates when different forms of delivery channels are used at the same time, for example, the use of narrations over graphics and text is redundant. Its effective when graphics are used with narrations rather than both text and graphics (Principles of Multimedia Learning, 2020).

Take aways

Our research found that Instagram ranks in the second position of the latest social platforms, proving the role of Instagram software in the current society. Its function is to publish posts, short videos(reel), production, promotion by merchants. Instagram is also a popular shopping platform and can create opportunities and skills for users.

Through our multimedia teaching, the learner will know how to use Instagram effectively and inspire to;

1) Publish their own posts

2) Create Reels

3) post on Instagram stories

4) Shop or sell on Instagram
